Happy New Year

Hi everyone! First I wish all of you a blessed and happy new year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday 🙂  Mine was lovely and I’m looking forward to a great year!

Knitting & Giving is growing and I couldn’t be happier. I just want to share a couple of pieces of news with all of you. First – and this is really exciting! – Bernat yarns has been in touch and will be adding Knitting & Giving to their new charity website called “Bernat Cares”. This new website will launch February 2010 so please keep a lookout for it. I will post the link here on this blog when they have gone live.

We have received a very lovely thank you letter from the Manchester Area Conference of Churches (MACC) here in CT for our recent donation the shelter here in Manchester. Here is an excerpt:

We see people working so hard every day to feed their families, find jobs and deal with chronic illness. Your gift is like the refreshing water that comes to help the flowers grow. Your compassion was felt on so many levels for staff, volunteers and those we serve.

Thanks to good community partners like you, people know that others care about them. The love and warmth of your handmade items are sure to be like hugs for people feeling low. I hope your new year will be as blessed as you have made it for others.”

As a group, we are making such a difference and I am thrilled to see the progress we are making. 🙂

Let’s make this year the best we can!  Donations have been pouring in and 2010 is off to a fantastic start! Here are photos of what we have been collecting:

A beautiful baby blanket

and an absolutely gorgeous handmade doll!

Warm scarves & mittens

A wonderful child’s sweater!

A child’s vest 🙂

This brings our total today to 30 items!!!!  Let’s keep up the great work!

Tomorrow I will be shipping out what we have collected so far to the Rescue House in Bridgeport, CT. The weather is so cold and I know they will be appreciated.

Please continue to send in any knit or crocheted items for donation. Remember that we collect and donate year round and there are never any deadlines.  Please email knittinggiving@hotmail.com for our mailing address.

May your hands always be busy,

~ Jessica
